Beginning of a new year!
Happy New Year to everyone reading this. May all Your wishes come true!
Sometimes a new work begins with nothing more than a feeling. A small movement in the light. A thought that hasn't yet taken shape, yet demands attention. That's the moment intuition takes over. Not thinking, but noticing. Not directing, but following.
In my studio, silence usually reigns. That silence creates space to look without expectation. The light falls as it falls. The shapes present themselves. And somewhere within, I feel: there's something here. That coincidental moment is often the beginning of an image that later seems very natural. Intuition lets me work without a plan. I respond to light, to movement, to emptiness. Sometimes it only takes seconds. But I don't always form the image—the liquids and the smoke do that. And only when everything is right does a stillness descend upon the work. Then I know: it's finished.
Perhaps that's why people say my images carry silence. Because they arise from silence.
